Amyβs recent hiring is an inspiring story. She had been working in the veterinary industry, focusing on professional development. While coding had been a hobby since the 90s, she started learning JavaScript during the pandemic and decided to attend a software engineering bootcamp. She then joined the Scrimba community and was impressed enough with the Scrimba Bootcamp to cut subscriptions to other educational coding sites to finance her studies. We are humbled by her enthusiasm for Scrimba.
Following encouragement from the Scrimba team, including Guil, Landon, and Micha, Amy leveraged her teaching skills and started applying for roles in tech education. After a month of interviews, she landed a role as an Assistant Instructor at a bootcamp. We wish her all the best in her new role, and who knows, maybe she will be joining us at Scrimba in the future!

Meet Jamie Baker π¬π§! Jamie is a recently hired new developer who used to be a butcher. Recently, he took the plunge to leave his growing business and, at 38, start his first front-end developer job after only interviewing at one company!
βThis is a story of perseverance and knowing when to niche down. You will hear how Jamie started coding, why he loves CSS, and how he fell in love with Shopify. You will learn why you should be enthusiastic about the tech youβre working with and why if youβre sending too many resumes, that might mean you need a better strategy. Jamie also talks about his typical day as a developer working at a Shopify agency, why honesty and people skills matter, and why you shouldnβt sleep on domain knowledge. There are also some fun quick-fire questions!
